Professional Composite Decking Installation in Middlesex and Monmouth County, NJ

Absolute Decks & Basements, a trusted composite deck builder in Middlesex and Monmouth County, NJ, explains why composite decking replaced wood as the standard for residential deck construction because it solves the problems wood cannot. No rotting, no splintering, no annual maintenance cycle. The trade-off is that not all composite products perform equally, and the manufacturer, product line, and installation method all affect how a deck holds up over time.

Three Decades of Material Knowledge

Composite decking has changed significantly since Absolute Decks & Basements started installing it in the late 1990s. Early products warped, faded, and collected mildew in ways that current capped composites do not. Knowing which products hold up and which ones overpromise takes hundreds of real installs in Central Jersey’s climate to figure out.

Composite Materials FAQs

What is the difference between capped composite and uncapped composite decking?
Capped composite has a polymer shell over the wood fiber core that blocks moisture, UV, and staining. Uncapped composite exposes the core, making it far more susceptible to mold, mildew, and color fade.
The polymer cap prevents moisture absorption, which stops the expansion, contraction, and cracking that Central Jersey’s seasonal swings cause in wood. MoistureShield is rated specifically for high-moisture environments and performs well in this region.
Composite boards have a textured surface that provides traction when wet, but grip varies by product. Lighter boards with pronounced grain texture perform better in wet conditions than smooth, darker boards. Profile and texture are reviewed for pool and wet-area applications.
What causes composite decking to fade or stain over time?
Uncapped products fade because the wood fiber core is exposed to UV and moisture. Capped composites block both with a polymer shell. Surface buildup from pollen and debris can still occur, but wipes off without penetrating the board.
Yes. The frame is inspected and reinforced as needed, and then composite boards are installed on top. Manufacturers specify minimum joist spacing, and that requirement is built into the plan before installation.
Occasional cleaning with a deck wash once or twice a year removes dirt, pollen, and organic buildup. No sanding, staining, or sealing is required.
