Rob Marek built the business on a simple standard: do the job right, stand behind it, and never cut corners where others do. Twenty-eight years and 1,000+ decks later, that standard has not changed.
Rob Marek did not start as a contractor. He managed retail stores for Rickels, a local hardware chain that eventually lost out to Home Depot. When the last store closed, Rob made a decision: he would take what he knew about customer service, accountability, and doing right by people, and apply it to the trades.
He founded Absolute Decks & Basements Contracting in 1997 and has been building outdoor structures and finished basements across Central Jersey ever since. The business survived the 2008 recession. It survived the pandemic. It survived because Rob never chased volume at the expense of quality, and because every homeowner who hired him told a neighbor.
Today, Rob works alongside his son Dylan, who serves as Project Manager. The two of them are the face of the company and the first people a homeowner speaks with when a project starts.
Absolute Decks & Basements Contracting is an owner-operated business. No rotating labor. No call centers. The same people who evaluate the property are accountable for the finished result.
Rob has been building decks, outdoor structures, and basement finishes across Central Jersey since 1997. A Trex Platinum Builder and NADRA member, he personally evaluates every property before a project begins. The two-hour on-site assessment is thorough by design; the goal is to identify every detail that could affect the build before the crew shows up.
Dylan grew up watching his father build. Today, he manages scheduling, client communication, and on-site coordination to keep every project running on time. Dylan is the main point of contact during construction and conducts the final walkthrough alongside Rob.
